Summer Food Plot in E. Texas - Houston County

So.... we have not had good luck with any type of food plot other than standard oats and rye grass. Is it too late to get something in ground for summer and if not - what would the green screen recommend? Peas? Soybeans?

Too late IMO. We will get no rain of any amount until fall now and the ground is drying out fast. Hate to be a downer, but thems the facts.

I’m with DC on this one. Past 2nd week of May and your just burning money most years.

I’d save the money and put it towards soil test, lime and fertilizer if needed for Fall plots

Yup, agreed with all above. Plan for the fall plots. Soil test, lime, and fert.

Do you put lime out at a particular time of year?

I test in August. Some lime (98g) is claimed to be fast acting (currently testing). “Ag lime” can take a while to make a difference (4-6 months or longer)
