Default Buck ... pork ... pork

Friday, I set out on my first whitetail hunt of the season. The long road, led me to Sonora, to a client's lease for a beautiful weekend of relaxation. Friday evening found me in a Matrix to do a little window shopping as I watched the sun fade over the horizon. There was a good 8 that frequented that area, but didn't show up that evening. I did get to see a bunch of deer of all sizes. It was relaxing to just sit in the blind and watch.

Saturday morning, I sat in the same blind, and again, just watched.

Saturday evening, I sat in a different spot that was a little more difficult to hunt. It was a short 5' aluminum ladder made into a makeshift ladder stand. The top consisted of a small piece of plywood with a five gallon bucket swivel seat and very LITTLE cover. A bunch of deer came in, and I picked out this 7 pt as a cull. This ranch considers anything without brow tines to be a cull. He gave me a 20 yard broadside shot, and the arrow was delivered. I heard him crash after a very short run, so I got down to look for blood. NONE to be found. I started walking in the direction that I thought he went and didn't find a single drop of blood. I found him, 50 yards from the stand, but not a single drop of blood between where he was shot and where he piled up. I'm sorry for the bloody LDP, but I had nothing to clean him with.

Sunday, was a day spent just watching and enjoying!

Monday morning took me back to the Matrix. Before good light, something spooked the deer. Then I saw two black masses running aimlessly around the area the deer had once occupied. As soon as they stoped long enough for me to get a fix on them with my range finder, an arrow was on the way. The first, was a severe quartering away spine shot. She flopped over, kicked for about 10 seconds and it was over. The second piggy decided she didn't like that kind of party and left the scene ... but her stomach brought her back 5 minutes later. Range finder up again .... arrow on the way! Two piggies in 10 minutes!

The deer came back ... but would never get close enough for a shot.

After taking care of the pigs, I packed up for the long trek home. It was a good weekend!

Well done Taxi! Nice cull buck!

Mind telling us what broadhead you sent through that buck that left no blood at all??? This should prove a point to a few folks.

Simek, not to worry ... I don't think I could even make a DENT in that deer population ... with ALL my tags! The fewest deer that I saw at a sitting was 14 ... the most was 40-something ... I couldn't even count em' all!

BTW, those are SELF LDP's.
I figured out how to use the timer on my camera along with a tripod ... I feel so smart! LOL

Dang, Kevin. Ease up on the poor critters. See..... that's why you only get 1 bullet when you're a junior deputy!

Seriously, well done. Congratulations on the buck & hogs.

As much as I hate to say it, it was my beloved Razorcaps!
And one of them "folks" is me! I learned that even with a well placed shot with a sharp broadhead ... you MIGHT not get blood.
There was so much blood where he fell, I had to drag him a few yards to get him out of the mess for the LDP. That's where all the other blood on him came from. I think he might have just saved it all up for when he crashed!
