It's relieving to hear some good stories about doodles.
We have a chocolate golden doodle that we purchased from a breeder north of Wichita Kansas. We love her but we won't have another one. She is by far the oddest dog we've ever owned. Just over a year old now and still struggling with potty training. She is very easily distracted when going outside, hard to handle on a leash, chases squirrels, and VERY uneasy about anything new. We don't know if maybe she doesn't see very well or what but she is very cautious if something appears in a place it normally isn't. Like a new fence, or a trash can, or a new person in the house that she's never met. We are dog people and have 5 other dogs right now (2 labs, 2 muts, and a yorkie.) The doodle and the yorkie are the only two who have free roam of the house since neither of them shed.
The yorkie on the other hand, is hands down he best dog we've ever had. I would highly recommend a yorkie for anyone looking for a house dog that doesn't shed (and willing to admit they own and love their yorkie.)
In talking to a few friends who have labradoodles or goldendoodles, I would generally categorize them as a higher energy dog. If you have kids that will keep the dog busy, it may be a good fit. We're in our early 40's and don't have kids and ours is a little too high energy for us.
