Default 1997 EZGO TXT rebuild

I bought this project from Joey aka Iehooligan11b (nice meeting you brother!) and can't wait to tear her down and build her back up. Here are some of the before pics:

Batteries are shot so I'll need some replacements. I've heard lots of good things about Trojan and for what I plan to use this for, I don't want to go cheap on batteries and get stranded.

Battery tray has some surface rust but is solid. I plan on treating it with a rust inhibitor and then painting it.

And she is stripped down from last night's work. A quick power wash is in store for tonight.

Got the body sanded down and painted. I had plans for a glossier finish but there were some deeper scratches that I wasn't convinced would look good so I went with black bed liner paint to give it some texture.

I have some accessories (LED light bar, stereo, maybe some running lights) to run on this and I was thinking about just adding a separate battery to run them but it seems like the way to go is a 36v-12v reducer and just run it off of the battery pack. I'm thinking 20amp minimum though. Has anyone used these before?
I need to place a call to Scotty at cartsunlimited.net to talk it through to make sure I understand it correctly.

Looking great bud! I did a similar one myself this past fall, there are some pics in a DIY thread.

I have a new 36V-12V reducer I don't need. if you want it, send me a PM. Good luck with the rest of the rebuild.

The seat boards were beyond rotten so I'll need to replace boards, foam, and covers. Here is a before and after of the boards I cut to replace them.

Got a box of goodies from the UPS man and got the buggie wired up tonight. All went well and we went for a test run around the block. Momma and the kiddos were happy campers tonight!

Replacement foam and new covers will be here in 2 weeks. Can't wait to put her all back together.

Still waiting on foam and seat covers. We've been riding every night to break in the batteries and have gotten some looks since it's all stripped down.

I'm actually trying to decide which accessories to add. The wishlist contains stereo/speakers, LED bar for hog hunting, smaller LED headlights and cabin lights, underbody LEDs (son's addition), new digital voltmeter, etc.

Once I determine what's going on it, then I'll know the amp draw so I can buy the correct 36v-12v reducer. I'm also thinking about upgrading all the cables as well to a 4g set.

Got a new set of 4g cables installed last night. Took it for a test run today and there is no noticeable GPS speed increase but there does seem to be less of a drop off when going into the wind, wide turns, and slight elevation increases. I'm happy with the results. Perhaps a controller/solenoid upgrade will be in my future.

Still waiting on my seat covers. I got a pretty crappy email from them when I asked for an update so maybe they're holding them to punish me. Lol. It was supposed to be 2 weeks assembly time and I read it as two weeks total time. They quickly put me in my place with what I was and was not told. Won't be spending another dime there.

I'm also still working on my wiring diagram for accessories. And this cable upgrade has me looking at ALL of my wires in the cart. I think I need to gut the wiring and start fresh.

Looks great. I doing a similar hunting buggy and will be watching yours for ideas. You may want to check out the buggiesgonewild website and cartsunlimited. They seem to have some opinions (like asking for an opinion on here about bows or coolers) about controllers and upgrades.

My advice would be gut the wiring. You will rest easy knowing all your connections are good. My advice: don't skimp on the terminals. The heat-shrink solder melt terminals are awesome.

Cartsunlimited.com is run by a guy that posts on Buggiesgonewild.com under the handle scottyb. So the two websites are a little redundant. Scotty sells quality stuff but his prices are really high I've found.

I'm leaning this way but a full wiring harness is plenty expensive.

Yeah it's just rattle can bedliner.

I had to gut the wiring. There were some wires that weren't connected to anything and others that were in BAD shape.

Ok guys I haven't posted in a while. Been too busy to do a lot of work to her but she's nearing completion. I still need to paint the canopy and wire up my goodies (LED lights, stereo, etc). But here she is. I have a brushed aluminum plate that will go on the dash as a switch plate.

Not on this one. I'm already planning a more street friendly cart and will either go Club Car or upgrade an EZGO to 48v. I'll upgrade the controller on that one for sure. This is just going to be a lease workhorse.
