    What caliber for AR

I have recently acquired an AR platform with all the fixings for 5.56... I'm very new to ARs...

But I already have bolt actions to satisfy my need for 5.56-type ballistics, etc. I'm looking to build this thing for hogs, and potentially even deer hunting, but I want something more powerful than the 5.56 and with relatively little modification. What would yall do?

    TIA

6.5 Creedmor seems to be the next step up. .300 blackout is another to consider.

I think it depends on the distance and size hogs you’re hunting. That Creed is very versatile imho.

Will seldom shoot hogs or deer further than 150yds where I hunt.

6.5 Grendel or 6.8 with preference on the 6.5

He won't be able to modify his current gun into a Creedmoor

Welcome to the world of ARs! I have built TONS of them in about every cartridge available suppressed and un-suppressed.

My hog and deer hunting rifles are 6.5 grendels. I have hunted with a 12", 16", 18", and a 24". If you have a suppressor the 12" is the way to go. If you don't have a suppressor go ahead and get the 16" or 18". My 12" grendel has shmacked many hogs and deer.

HIGHLY suggest makers ammunition. If you want to stick with ammo available at academy, check out the federal fusions.

6.5 grendel and 6.8SPC will shoot ballistically about the same for hunting distances. I prefer the grendel because there are more ammo options and there is steel cased ammo that is really cheap to plink with.

I use the 6.8 for deer or hogs mostly. For BIG hogs up around 50 yards I go with the 50 Beowulf, it's a blast to shoot and will keelll

                        6.5 Grendel and stop there

In an AR platform for hogs, deer and yokes I'd go with a 6.8SPC II.
