The early pictures of your dad with the cabinet are priceless. I'm imagining your grandchildren enjoying that piece someday. Definitely a very worthy heirloom. Nice job, Casey!

Great idea! Stories are abound behind that glass.

Thanks for the comments, folks. I'm really proud of how it turned out, in spite of how easily it was converted. The nice thing is the modifications are minor and if it needs to be a gun cabinet again, it can be very easily.

Finding those photographs of my Dad over the weekend were icing on the cake. They were in perfect shape and they scanned very well. This just further drove the point home for me that if we're going to hold onto these images, we need to print them. How many times have we whipped out the phone to take a pic of a kids work, our work or whatever to "preserve" that moment. I think it goes without saying that those photos will likely be gone someday...unless we print.

While the furniture and other inanimate objects are cool to possess, as Snakelover mentions, the true treasures are the images of my Dad.

The lone star bottle opener bolo stands out as well.

                Yours trumps my rusted version.

                Lots of win here.

The bottle of Porfidio Anejo is a great touch. As a tequila collector, I suggest you hang on to that bottle forever, since you'll never see those bottles again. I have one full size bottle I've been nursing for 7 years now.

That's cool looking how it transformed. I dig the Pearl bottle opener too
