I went out this weekend, pretty much just do some scouting. Saw quite a few deer, it was fun to just watch. Got some pics on my Instagram.

Deer were moving in the Pecan grove area up until about 10:00. Didn't see any hogs moving.

Itd be prudent to utilize a tool of that magnitude in the middle of a CRP area....Ive knocked far more arrows off the shelf than arrows loosed in the flood thicket.

I feel like a **** because I aint motivated to hunt hog with this heat. Come on fall!

Nice shot Carnage, but pretty soon you will have to start throwing rocks at them to make it a challenge!

Anyone ever have any problems with trichinosis on the hogs at granger? Curious because I want to get out there to warm up for deer season

Field dress with the head up. Most nasty stuff is actually in their reproductive systems. Or gutless field dress.

Trichinosis is caused by eating contaminated meat. The parasite is in cyst form in the meat and when you eat the contaminated meat it (the cyst) develops into trichinosis. That's the short version anyway.

ALL wild pork (and bear) should be considered to be contaminated and treated as such.

The only real defense is to cook the meat well, to a temperature of 160 or higher (internal temperature). This will kill any Trichinella cysts present in the meat and make it safe to eat.

Additionally, Trichinella only infests the voluntary muscles of an organism. If you just have to eat something raw, like in a survival situation, you should eat organs (liver, lung, brain, etc.) or the heart (which is an involuntary muscle).

There is no chance of contracting trichinosis by contact; that is during field dressing, butchering or transporting.

While trichinosis was a big deal in the past, modern medicine can control it very well.

One more question from curiosity, has anyone ever been robbed or heard stories of anyone being held up out at granger? A friend of mines husband was robbed on public land in east Texas, they took his $800 bowtech. CHL aside, any war stories like that in central Texas?

Wildman once had a battery stolen out of the back of his truck, and Sackett had a fish fryer stolen one year @ GRXH from the No. 7 primitive launch.

But nothing like you are describing.

Went out to gate 6 pre-dawn twice last week after being away all summer. 1st morning I saw a nice group of about a dozen led by a big sow come across a meadow just as the light was changing. She busted me and charged across about 40 yds away at the nearest point. Got off 2 arrows as they passed, missed both.

Made my way up to an arundo stand I call Hog Majal. Crawled in there an scared myself to death as several pigs of various sizes came close to me and made noise but were too obscured by brush to shoot. Id like to go back there with about 3-5 guys to push them out sometime.

2nd day went back with my buddy but didn't see any pigs. Saw lots of deer, a diamondback rattlesnake in a tree line, and a big fat water moccasin down by the trashy fishing hole.

I love tramping around up there but it would be nice to kill something soon.
