This is just great....leaving for Calgary and Banff this Thursday for a week of hiking and rafting. I was already nervous about the bears......now this.

On Bonanza they once had an episode where Hoss (Dan Blocker) once killed a bear with a rock. He was my wife's cousin and the episode was as shout out to their Great Grandpa who once killed a bear with a pocket knife. He was picking black berries and got attacked. I do not know how big the bear was. Probably not that large but still he killed it with a pocket knife. When asked about it he replied he had not gone bear hunting or he would have taken a rifle. At least that is the family story that has been passed down.
