My GC is complaining because I told him I'm not working Thursday afternoon and Friday. I worked til 9:30 last night to finish up one job for him so he wouldn't pop a vessel. I'm ready to go.

I have to make a run to east Texas in the early morning then on to Fairfield. I'm ready to break the trade now curse that has been plaguing me with the pigs. From the sounds of it we will eat good if naught else. See you fellas at Capp's feed and hardware around noon.

Well after a very rainy afternoon we are in stand waiting for the feeders to throw at 7. It's nice and cool ad we saw a pig as we were getting tradtiger in his box and driving off so hopefully the will be moving good.

Wind direction and predictions have changed in the last half hour. Hope it don't mess Ronnie up. Just a good cross the pasture corner a while ago.

Alright, alright.

First of all, Gary (DRT) is awesome as a host and organizer -- add in photographer. Ben at Three Fingers Bowhunting knows his business and his animals and their habits. And, he has a lot of hogs -- as well as plenty of ungulates (red deer, sika, fallow) plus blackbuck. Anyway, we hunted fairly standard set-ups of box blinds with timed feeder throws for some sessions, but we also mixed it up with some nighttime action and spot and stalk with Ben providing firearm backup, if needed.

Also, need to mention Ronnie, who came all the way from Louisiana and shot three hogs. Great gentleman, and his largest hog was a sow of at least 120 pounds.

Gary made the shot of the weekend on a 124-lb sow running flat-out left to right at 15 yards, making a perfect shot behind the shoulder with a mechanical broadhead that cut a 2-inch gash, dumping buckets of blood and downed her in 30 yards.

It was fortunately my turn as shooter on the spot-and-stalk hunt this morning when we came up on a pair of hogs in a 10-foot deep erosion ravine. The larger brown hog was at a better angle, hard quartering away about 15 yards away at a downward angle. Picked a spot, drew the 70-lb Jay Weathers recurve, and tried to release a smooth shot. Hit right where I looked and buried the 680-grain single bevel Tuffhead over a foot into the hog. When he took off, it became evident that he was pretty big, and he snapped off my arrow on a tree as he ran south.

Followed big splatters of blood for about 150 yards and found the boar stone dead in the creek bottom. Was glad to have four men to get that beast to the truck. Turned out to weigh 238 pounds. Every now and then a blind hog finds an acorn.

Will add pictures from phone on Tapatalk edit.

I like group hunts. For years I had friends who bowhunted but we all hunted different places. I got invited to a hunt at threefingers by a guy I'd never met before and had a blast. A few weeks later those friends and I booked a hunt there. For years we would go about twice a year and have a great time.
However the opportunity to do it with new friends, share and learn in the traditional pursuit, tell stories and enjoy that kind of fellowship is something you can't replicate any other way.

I dunno. They gave us fits. In and out of the rams where we couldn't shoot, behind the feeder where we couldn't shoot.
I saw more pigs at one time this weekend than I ever have. Must've been over a hundred in the pasture. I walked up on a sow nursing piglets in the dark while we we looking for Tradtiger's first one. She wouldn't get up. The piglets were all over her and I couldn't tell if she was the wounded one. I was within 5 feet when I told Ellis I didn't think she was the one and she got up and ran off leaving her piglets. That's when I snatched up Hammy.
I guess since i had the wind and with the rain I didn't spook her til I spoke.
Fun stuff. Caught a little boar, maybe 20 pounds, in the feed trough. Baker said he'd hold him if I cut him so Ben has a spotted bar hog running around now.

This was a fantastic hunt. The only thing I was unhappy abt was that I only took a dozen arrows. Came home with a quiver full of junk. I know this means that I must be a bad shot but it also means I shot at a LOT of pigs. I shot some of those arrows more than once.
Gary and Ellis made the hunt Even better, never a dull moment. They kept me laughing the entire time. Great guys!
Ben Capps, the owner, definitely knows his stuff and is as nice of a guy you would ever want to be around.
First time I've ever been on one of these hunts as I've always had a lease but this is the only way from now on. Better hunting and cheaper in the long run.
