I shoot a 50 lb. recurve but don`t draw all the way back on small fish.

I enjoyed bowfishing for several years but sold my boat 3-4 years ago, just got tired of it I guess.

Here`s a picture of one of my best gar from lake Amistad.
Just awesome!!

Amistad weekend. We shot 3 nights. All of my old spots were dry land so we were winging it on new water.

102 fish shot, 23lbs was largest carp, average was 17lbs, several right at the 20lb mark. Lost 15-16 carp. Had to start double arrowing them to get them in the boat.

Slow night for me at gibbons. saw tons of little gar but i was after talipia. took my oldest son and our home made bowfishing rig out for the fist time. he did well and the bow worked great. my boy hit 6 gar but only got two in the boat. his short draw lenght was lacking the horse power needed to blow through them. i wanted him to hit a carp but it didnt work. i shot 1 gar just for the heck of it. killed 2 carp that i thought were talipia because they were hanging around a nest site. and hit two talipia out of the 3 we saw. water was up from the rain and very muddy from all the wind we had. only had about 10 inches of visibility. pretty much had to shoot fish that were on top of the water.

Took a buddy to gibbons for his first bowfishing trip. We only shot 6 needle nose gar but he is hooked! The wind was bad so our normal spots weren't working for us so we hit the creek.

2. You will shoot a lot wile bow fishing and a heavy bow will wear you out if you pull it very much.

We often shoot over 100 times a night, and twice that in the spring spawn!

I also shoot 30 pounds (AMS Discovery) and never have a problem sticking even big fish!
Don't forget you can't snap shoot a normal compound also.

The tournament was at Outback camp Ground near Trinity. You could launch there or trailer anywhere as long as you were back at 3am for weigh in. 86 is an extremely low number to win with.

We went Saturday night in Houma, LA. It was a blast even though the water was really murky from all the shrimp boats. I will post pics later but Freddy really put us on the reds & sheepheads. Not to mention he has the most bad-A air boat I've ever seen, something like 1000+ horsepower. He got stuck till high tide once a long time ago and vowed he would never be stuck again. lol. The boat had a huge deck and we all really enjoyed the entire experience.

Mrs. Z7_matt, johnS, and I made it out to gibbons today. Shot 11 tilapia but only boated 8 as well as 3 needle nose gar. Had a blast even though we started out slow and we had to work around the clouds. Stopped to take a few pics while we were out there.

Sounds great! We spoke with the game warden William Cawthorn if I remember correctly. He told us where he had good luck so that's where we went. We could have filled a cooler if we wouldn't have missed so much! Good luck this weekend, wish we could go but my bow is getting a new string on it this weekend hopefully.
