I let what would have been one of my best bucks ever last weekend because it was hot as hell and I did not want to mess with him.
But a blood trail had nothing to do with it.

I'm assuming you're talking about a blood trail in the rain when you know it'll wash away. That's the only thing I can think of that would make me hold off.

Even then, it'd have to be pouring. And if it was pouring I'd likely not be in the blind.

I let a spike walk one year on the last day of season because I walked about 1/2 mi into a flooded bottom, about 1/3 of which was mid thigh deep

Would have worked to get a nice buck out but didn't want to put that much effort into anything less
