Mineral Lick (pit) attracts just about everything.

Lots of visitors to the mineral pit:

Looks like to me that this dude oughta be big enough to eat some of those piggies in the pit!

          2 parts trace mineral salt
          1 part dicalcium phosphate

I add about about 3/4 of a 5gal bucket to it a couple of times a year.

I think this past spring was 3 yrs. I need to get 4 or 5 bags of dirt and fill it back in bit.

Ross, do you buy those minerals at a feed store?

Yeah, trace mineral salt is easy find. The dicalcium phosphate is harder to find and I had to order.

I use that recipe, but with one part regular stock salt included. My pit is not yet that deep, but getting there.

Original recipe called for the stock salt also, but heck I figured since trace mineral is already >90% salt, no need to add it.

I tried it in another location there and they pretty much ignored it. This one is fairly close to a wet weather creek. It's a much cooler location in the woods and the soil holds moisture better. It's no more than a few hundred yards from the location that didn't work.
