Ever since my son Emmett was born, I began dreaming of sharing hunting adventures with him. Our first opportunity at a hunt together came this afternoon, with Mom in tow as well. The afternoon hunt started hot! Not from animals, from temp. We had little man shirtless trying to keep him cool. We opted to keep the windows closed to keep our noise from escaping.
Emmett played, and yelled, and fussed a little. We were laughing and interacting with him. There was more to this hunt than killing a big buck. About 20 minutes after the feeder spun, Krystal gingerly glances out the window, and reports back HOG!
I look out the window to see two massive boars. Krystal grabs my X Bolt 243 and pokes it out the window. I hold Emmett's ears, as the wifey counts down 3...2...1... bang! Emmett was a little spooked at the report, but got over it quickly. I heard a loud squeal, and knew the pig was hit. Krystal wasn't sure of her shot, but said it felt good. I climbed out and went to look for blood, but didn't see any. I walk into the woods a bit, and sure enough find this brute laying within 60 yards of where he was standing.
It was all so awesome. Krystal was super excited to have killed this boar. Seeing her excitement was contagious. Watching Emmett study that pig as if he was thinking "what the hell is that thing" made me smile. The hunt was just perfect.
I can't wait to continue to share this passion of mine with my family.
