We decided to let him walk this year. Being fenced we can eliminate the risk of a neighbor shooting him. It's going to be a long 11 months.

I am leaning toward 4.5 also....FYI I let one very similar to that buck walk at 4.5 and I had him in the mid 170's....I took him the next year at 5.5 and he scored 207 and change....made the book with a net of 200.

I'm not the best at aging deer, but I can't get him past 4.

Doesn't look very old to me.

Is it a high fence deer or low fence?

sorry just saw the other post about high fence.

I definately don't see him at 5 yrs old.

Ive got pics somewhere that put him at 5-6 and seeing him in the flesh tells me 5. He has been easy to track the last two years due to his right brow tine always being curved. These are Texas hill country deer with some introduced Texas genetics about 10 years ago. 24/7 protein fed from mid December until Oct 1. We have released deer we have killed that were aged on the hoof and via teeth two years younger that they were.

I don't think he is as old as you guys think he is. Take his antlers out of the picture and I am at 3-4. He is still tight through the belly, not much sway in this neck or back.

What a beautiful buck! I see 4.5, looking at his knees he just doesn’t have the hair loss im used to seing on our hill country 5.5+. Tough one to pass though.
