Finally connected in Lee County (Lexington) with the end of October and the end of doe hunting on the horizon. I got out of work a little early and made my way to the lease on Friday with the hope of good deer movement. Friday afternoon i climbed into my favorite stand in a large pecan orchard on the edge of the brush overlooking a well-used trail.
I kept entertained (and frustrated) by what seemed like a dozen armadillos until a group of 4 doe enter the pecan bottom and slowly circle my area and find some hand-thrown corn on the trail. At around 6:50 i had the two mature doe within 20 yards and made my draw.... The closer doe that i was planning on shooting turned and fed away, leaving her buddy to recieve the arrow. The shot was good and she jump 10 feet to the side and looked back to see what that noise was... She started coughing and stumbled another 15 yards in front of me and went down for good. The Slick Trick took out both lungs and there she lay inside 20 yards of the stand.
Now bring on the horns!
