My son shot a nice buck this weekend. He has been hunting more this year than ever before. He passed on a really nice buck 2 weeks ago because he didn't have a perfect shot. We were sitting in our ground blind watching some does, fawns, and a smaller buck when this guy appeared. He passed by at about 50 yards. He then circled down wind and walked in front of the blind at about 10 feet. I was shaking. He worked his way to our hand corn and started to eat at about 13 yards. We watched him for over 10 minutes making sure he was legal because we had never seen him before. My son leaned over to me and in a shaky voice said "Can I shoot him?". I said yes. About that time two fawns kept getting in the way. Once my son had a clear shot with no deer in the background he flicked off his safety on his crossbow. It was so loud, but nothing noticed even though we had 5 deer within 15 yards. He took the shot and all I saw was blood. I had never seen so much. The deer fell at full run at about 50 yards. When we field dressed we saw the path of the arrow. It cut the heart half way through.
This is his second buck and fourth deer. He is a 12 point. It is a main frame 10 point with a weird second brow tine going backwards and an extra inch long tine on the other beam. He ended up being 14" wide.
