Thank you, Sir. Looking forward to developing food plots and sets for the kids.

My son and daughter completed their Hunterís Ed course last weekend with Shake ĎN Bakeís daughter.

Heís been on me to kill his first deer. I told him that if he passes his hunterís ed and puts in the time to get his set together and develop accuracy with a .223 we can hit the woods this fall at the new place to harvest his first deer. Like Mollyís first deer, the video cams will be rolling.

He passes with a 94%. The first hurdle is behind him.

Happy Easter. Jesus is risen.

ďMr. SoonerĒ sounds like an official title. I think I like it.

All joking aside, thanks!

The next steps will be to get some soil samples done to see what fertilizer I need to spread. If this place is like others Iíve been on in Pushmataha County Iím pretty sure that it will need quite a bit of lime. The plots being on top of a ridge are somewhat unique for me.

Thatís great. We looked in Bryan and Choctaw counties but couldnít seem to afford it. The farther South we looked the higher the prices seemed to be which is one reason we headed North.

Congrats again! Look forward to following along on your journey.

Thanks! Yeah we got lucky. The place was under contract before then I saw it become available, then locked it up a day or two later. We looked up north as well and thought thatís where we would end up. Iíll start a thread once everything closes.

Canít wait to see your place transform!

Heading up to the new place this weekend to attend the former ownerís estate sale. Heís got an auctioneer coming in so it should be a great people watching event. Heís got until 5/15 to get the place cleaned out/off. May pick up a few items if we can get a deal. Will beat having to purchase elsewhere at retail and haul it up there.

Will have had the four game cams out a solid month now. This will be the first time Iíve ran them since purchasing it. Hoping to have a healthy herd in the area and very few hogs and coons.

Will also be taking some soil samples to get ready to ship to OSU to see what the soil needs in the two areas where Iíll be attempting food plots.

Last time I was there I did some scouting and ran across some old homemade stands.

Actually looks pretty comfy. May update the ratchet straps, add my spare seat from the Ranger bass boat and get to hunting!

More to come!

Congrats on owning your own place. I was fortunate enough to be born into a family that owned acreage and each deer I kill on the family property means just a bit more than every other deer. Did the past owner give you any history of the wildlife on the property? Any deer they might have taken off the place? Or numbers and size they have seen on the place?

The owner killed very few deer off this place. He was mainly a meat hunter. I have zero intel on the size of the deer in the immediate area. Only thing he could tell me was that they come up in the yard in good numbers to eat and pick at the fruit trees, and he had a guy that he let hunt a few years back kill ďa bigíunĒ! Some of the sheds he has are impressive. We shall see this fall.

Planning fall plots this year. With school and work I donít have the time to get spring plots in. Plan on it next year though. Will need to increase the available forage. Iíd rather do it this way than through feed alone.

If it isnít nailed down I expect it to get sold and taken away! Bring your checkbook. I hear there is a good size doll collection available.

This is exactly why we pulled the trigger. This place is a tiny fraction of the size of our lease but it is ours....and God willing will be for generations of Hunts.

Well, FIL and I traveled to the new place today to attend the estate auction being held by the sellers.

The ďpeoplewatchingĒ was world class.
We got there at 8:15 and went all day. The turnout was immense. Iíd estimate a tad over 400 there. The parts where they parked was a muddy mess. I have work to do.

Got one of the tractors up there and unloaded today, which was one objective.

Didnít have time to get a soil sample on this trip. Will do it next time I go up.

Also secured some kitchen items (plates, glasses, silverware, pots, pans, etc., etc.). Getting this stuff already on site makes this turn key operation more turn key. Picked up the former ownerís Lincoln AC-225 stick welder, leads, hoods, gloves and rods in anticipation of having to fix implements as the rocks take their toll.

Tons of junk was sold with buyers having 7 days to come get their new treasures off the property.

Junk vehicles were dragged out of the brush left and right, before being auctioned.
...sweet ride that Darton was eyeing pretty hard....envision with longhorns on the front.

Have 4 cams out. Ran them and confirmed that we definitely have a deer herd in the area. Here are two bucks just starting their headgear.

Lots of does on camera. Iíll upload more pics once I get them loaded.

Thanks, Gents.

Still working through those pics. I may have the same groups hitting both sites. I was very happy to not see a single pig on camera!

Did have one camera that had the battery compartment door open and a battery pulled out though. From the looks of it I think a coon was just checking my batteries for me.

the sample size is small, but the estate sale shoppers looked harmless enough. maybe word will get out that the vehicles and elvis plates are already gone.

The kids are a big part of this. My family moved to the country when I was 12 and those next 6 years did allot to shape my views on things and give me a deeper appreciation for what God has created. I am in this for the memories and for helping to shape them in the same way.

This place is a fraction of the 4000 acres Iím used to hunting but itís ours. That gives me peace and takes the pressure off because Iím taking a long term view.

Everyone Iíve spoken with seems to think we will be OK. Iíll be keeping the gate locked and taking precautions as I can. Regarding the crowd, they were a hoot to watch. It takes all kinds to make the world go round...
