Default NBA Top 5 - All Time

With the NBA Finals here, I figured I would ask one of the most disputed sports questions...

Who are your Top 5 All Time (in order)?

Sorry, I didn’t realize that the NBA’s Top 5 referees was such a polarizing topic. For the sake of this thread, let’s go with players.

not to go off topic but what about the best finals ever?

I'd have to go with the 84 finals between the Celtics-Lakers. Next would be the Rockets-Knicks.

In my opinion, outside of Cy Young’s total wins, Jack’s majors and Greyzky’s Points records are two of the most untouchable records in sports.

No mention of Shaq? Probably the most dominant player I’ve seen in his prime. Maybe the free throw thing keeps him off the list.

Saw Emmitt mentioned as top 5 on an NFL list above. He’s not even the best at his position in the last 25 years.

a few more untouchable records

749 Complete Games - Cy Young
- will never be broken based on how the game is played today

44.2 pts per game - Pete Maravich career NCAA scoring avg.
- next closest player averaged 35 pts

21 seconds - fastest NHL hat trick by Bill Mosienko
- simply crazy

11 consecutive PGA tour wins - Byron Nelson
- most Tiger had was 8

Not sure I agree with this, besides pippen most of the bulls players were a bunch of role players. Most of the teams the bulls beat had a pretty good 1/2 punch of their own. Payton/kemp, penny/shaq, Stockton/Malone.
Lebron has made a lot of finals but that’s mainly because the east s u c k s!! If the cavs were in the West they would be a 3-6 seed every yr and prob only makes about half of those finals. He also had the first star stacked team of this generation when he made “the decision”! He also has had the ability to basically pick his own teams since he left Cleveland originally. Maybe we should have a debate on who is the worst GM of all time

I am coming around on how good he is and I def think there is a strong argument for top two GOAT’s but to say he has done more with less is not a good argument to me.
I will also add, most of my thoughts are before this yr, he has def carried them this playoffs. Like D-MO said it’s def getting close and a good debate between the two players.
I look at it in tiers

MJ
LJ
Kobe(distant 3rd)

Magic
Bird

Honorable mentions
Shaq
Hakeem
Kareem

Forget everything I just said, lebron is doing more with less, his team has next to no basketball IQ, that was a horrible way to end a game.

Not sure I agree... Lebron is the best player in this era... MJ was the best in his era.. Guys actually played defense back in MJs times... I don't know any player that could defend MJ one on one back in the day so I know no one could do it now!! Just my take...

No no no

Jordan won 6 ( may have won 8 in a row if he didn't go play baseball)

Lebron has been 9 times and only won 3..

Russell won 11 titles in 13yrs, ( that's freaking crazy )
Kinda like UCLA and Wooden's winning streak

The problem with that argument being, that James has called the shots on who he got to play with, and called them WAY wrong. Thusly hurting his team.

I know he has called the shots but all superstars call their shots. He plays in the east pretty smart. I love these arguments

Russell - Cannot touch his Finals career, and he was the Coach of a Championship while playing. He destroyed Wilt every year. Stopped Elgin Baylor and Jerry West from garnering Championships. Bob Petit was no slouch either. Want to talk about a record that will never be touched, this Finals record will never be touched - especially consecutively. He even won back to back Championships at the Univ. of San Francisco for goodness sakes.

Kareem
LBJ
MJ
Wilt / Oscar

Dirk is up there with LBJ for me as my favorite player, but his defense holds him back. My Grandfather would take me to LBJ HS games every year up in Ohio. I even got to watch him on the football field.

His offense is top 10, but when you talk all time, he gets knocked down a rung because of that defense.

They are close, but MJ was a better all around player in his prime. Jordan was a better defender, and rebounder without a doubt. They are both great scorers.
