I've been debating on whether or not I was going to go live due to phone battery being terrible, but it seems to be doing ok.
4 of us left SETX at 01:00 yesterday, and pulled into camp a little after lunch. After getting everything at camp situated we hit the woods.
I had a hell of a hunt, one of my top three sits in the woods. I was hunting a creek crossing with standing beans to my west, CRP to the north and bedding to the west. I had does in the beans and bucks irritating them like a school boy. The last 20 mins of light I had a 170's 10 with a few stickers bump a doe in there and mount her several times. They got to 37 yards, and I couldn't seal the deal. She never let him breed her, just stood long enough for a tease, like a school girl. [emoji12]
This morning we woke up to changing winds and 15* on the mecury. I hunted a different set, which I am still in. It is nothing more than a narrow strip of woods with a few big oaks, cut corn to the north and east, and pasture to the west. We've seen 2 things happen in this strip over the years. 1. Bucks cruise this strip from big timber to big timber.
2. Bucks will push a doe into here to "lock her down"
I've seen 2 pretty nice 8's today push thru, a doe with triplets still tagging along, and several small bucks cruising. Let's see how the rest of the week goes. I have until the 21st.
Today's set.
