I am "sure" if he was alive it would be easy to tell if he was a hog nose..... so from here on out, the garden club will "surely" have to refer to him as a dead snake. lol

Look at how different shaped the patterns are from the know hog nose to the snake in question.

Definitely a black widow! You need to pack up the family and get the hell out of town!

Probably the same reason people comment on threads without reading the whole thing and end up making accusations or asking questions that make them look silly.

His neighbor killed it and asked for help identifying it.

Looks like a Hog Nose. Guess you have me confused Curt.
It might be a hog nose, and I'm sure YOU think it's a good snake, but there is no such thing as a "good" snake. There are snakes that should die and snakes that should live, but "good".....NO. My point was it's either "good" or a "snake"...can't be both.

The link I posted above has a pic that looks very much like the one in the OP's post, especially those black patches just behind the head... AKA spread 'n atter... They are about the only snake (or any animal for that matter that eats the common toad...
To the point they will almost die, unless they get a toad. I had a Eastern for several yrs, and man he was picky. He would eat the different frogs from the pet store, but he had to be literally starving. Toads he would eat as fast as you could put them in there, but they weren't always readily available. He got real skinny every winter.
