Where to buy beef fat on SW, W, or S side of Houston?

    Guys and gals,

I would appreciate your help, I used to get beef fat from my local grocer, but I was unpleasantly surprised this time when it came with a price tag that rivaled the cost of ground beef.

Anyone have any leads in SW, W, or S Houston on where I could score about 10lbs of fresh beef fat?

    Thanks for your help.

Go back to the meat department and ask for a manager.

This was a Krogers and that is who I chatted with. They have given me fat for the last 10+ years.

I buy prime briskets at Costco, trim the brisket to smoke, and save the fat for venison burger and sausage. Win-win.

I’ve always used Kroger’s. I just ask the meat guy close to the end of the night and he usually gives me several pounds. This is in DFW but I’m guessing Houston Kroger’s/HEB will do the same

Tried a seconds Krogers this morning.

Both were $1.99/lb and wouldn’t discuss it further. Both ‘claim’ their pricing machine wouldn’t go below this.

I even pointed out the fact that was the same price they have for ground beef and pointed to their pricing placard. Crickets.

B&W will be getting much more business from me due to this. I honestly didn’t even know they existed.
