Pitcher son's progress; school axing sport

Eric just got another Save (his 6th). Entered with one on, one out, and got a groundball double play to end the game in a 6-3 win over Washburn. (1st game of a double header; should be able to get streaming video and play by play at links provided above.) Second game underway.
Looks like 2nd game may have been delayed or postponed.

Weekend Update:

Just pitched a scoreless 9th vs. Washburn in a 12-11 loss. Gave up a single to start the inning, then basically got all three outs himself, with a 1-3 putout on a sac bunt, 3-1 out at first and strikeout, stranding a man at third.

Stat-line now: 1.71 ERA, 21 k's in 21 innings, 1 Win, 6 Saves.

Now has 3 written D2 scholarship offers and a solid Big 12 D1 invite for visit.

UNK Lopers just staged an exciting comeback win over Northeastern St. Univ (Okla.), winning 12-9.

Eric secured his 7th Save of the season, facing the top of an order -- which collected 19 hits on the day, btw -- by throwing a 13-pitch scoreless 9th inning, allowing 2 singles while striking out 1 and getting 2 flyouts. ERA now at 1.54, with 23 strikeouts over 23.1 innings.

Particularly nice for us was that the wife/Mom traveled to Tahlequa, Oklahoma and witnessed this game, which featured an 8-run comeback -- 3 in the 8th, 5 in the 9th.

Kid looks good. Seems to get out for a sub pitcher. Many of them don’t extend with legs but your kid does.
I hope he gets where he wants to go and this whole thing ends up being a positive

Thanks, Glen. Yes, he does stride out pretty well.

Will soon see how D1 school visit goes; meanwhile, working hard with a gritty bunch of teammates at UNK who are never out of any game.

Interest heating up, with more D2 and D1 schools involved. Not being cagey, just an update. Team took two out of three versus NSU over the weekend. Hoping team can finish things off with a flourish!

Update: Got another Save today versus Pittsburgh State (Gorillas) out of Kansas, a 10-7 comeback win at home in Kearney. Eric now has 9 Saves, with 30 strikeouts over 26.1 innings and a 1.71 ERA.

Had a D1 school visit yesterday, with a couple other D1 schools showing interest, along with several D2 offers in the mix. Keep y'all updated as developments occur.

Just was brought to my attention that Eric's 9 Saves currently has him tied for 11th in the nation for D2. Or, only 10 pitchers in the country playing D2 have more saves than him.

Update: Eric named Honorable Mention All -Conference as a reliever. (MIAA)

Also, Head Coach Damon Day was named conference Coach of the Year; Alex Achterman named Player of the Year.
