Default Rolling blackout

Just hear that they may do rolling blackouts for 30 min to 60 min around the state starting tonight through Tuesday.

Evidently the wind turbines have froze up and can't add to our capacity.

I bought a new generator yesterday just in case something like this happened. More due to blackouts and less about the windmills. The last winter storm than came through we had power issues for 15 hours.

This kind of stuff aggrevates me....shows how screwed we all are if something bad really happens. Over the past year there have been signs after signs of when things are needed the most, that's when you can depend on them the least.

It just seems that we could be past the point of not being able to handle a few days of cold weather, especially when other parts of the country can handle it for months at a time every year.

Bad Analogy. There's only so much power/electricity to be had. Factor in everyone (and their dog house literally) running just "1" extra space heater. That's an extra 1-2000 kwh being used per household! The Grid can't support that.

Should have planned and built a bigger grid

Thereíd be more if the asshes hadnít been trying so hard to stop natural gas, and coal plants, and pushing this fraudulent wind BS.

That is a huge outage if it’s not a rolling blackout
It would have to be on the Transmission/generation side I would think for that large of an area.

Covid 19. I am thinking of thousands of restaurants that are shuttered and dark. I am thinking of the thousands of other businesses, movie theatres, sport venues, dance halls, and many more that are Covid Closed. Due to decreased demand lots of manufacturing plants are shut down or on a reduced operating schedule. I am thinking of all the thousands of other businesses that do not maintain a operating office anymore, everyone works from home. All that electricity not being used.

We should have a ton of surplus power available

Germany has been in bad shape recently with snow covered solar panels and frozen wind turbines.

They had to bring coal plants back online to 100% and are barely keeping up.

Wind turbines and solar are total junk. Hopefully the US doesnt get too stupid with it like they did.

How? other cities and states handle it all the time. I understand building things on the cheap because we dont use it very often, cutting corners in every industry is a thing. Things like this are just an example of how fine of line we are all walking when it comes to things that we take for granted. A few days of unnormal uses and everything goes to crap.

Yep. And they don't put heat pumps in their houses up north. Our first house was a rent house that was all electric. It sucked when it was cold. I swore I'd never own a house that didn't have gas heat. I've stuck to that. My air handler is still electric though, so I'm hoping our electricity stays on tonight and the rest of the week.

I need to get a generator before "next time".

Gas heat and wood burning stoves instead of electric heat pumps.

Well, when you factor in the number of big coal burning power plants that have been shut down over the last few years and throw in some gas units as well, the surplus just isnít there.

Same. Our 1st home was all electric, the dumb thing was the plumbed a gas line into the attic like they didnít know what sort of unit was going to be up there.

New house has gas furnace and foam insulation. More better!

You can watch the grid demand and supply at the above link. Wind generation at 6pm was 8,754 mwh.

Yall are reading that PEC map wrong. That map is just the service area. Of the 350k meters, less than 4% have no power. I'm square in the middle of that service area and the power is still on here.

I am in this outage, but my power is till on.

My issue is tracking down where my water problem is. A well pump, A booster pump, a bladder tank & a storage tank.

one of those is blocking water from getting to the house.

I have a heat lamp on the booster pump area. But I am afraid it is outside the well house where the storage tank valve is to go to the booster pump. Guess I will use my pear burner tomorrow to see if I can thaw out the lines.

I have natural gas for anything I can and tonight the fireplace stopped working. Checked the stove and it barely had a flame. Went to Atmos and they are limiting the supply. So it’s not just electric.

North Plano went out for 30 mins. Some of you people in the business might know. I think they take some electric generation offline in the winter.

Lost mine twice and it's currently out but the neighbors on one side of the street didn't go out either time. I went to oncore website and it estimates mine will be out till 5am. I got up and made some coffee when it came back on and glad I did when I had the chance.
Just checked again and now they state it will be 9am before restored. That is no bueno.

Mine has cycled off and on, every 8 minutes since 5pm yesterday. Fridge it's at 56deg, freezer at 39. Indoor air temp is 59.

The way that ercot/tri-county is managing this is brutal. I can't even run a space heater because it will blur automatically come back on.

Kids are bundled in 20 deg sleeping bags and doing fine.

Thankfully my food will survive in the garage @41

Yea that could create a bomb in your house when they bring it back up and one of your gas appliances is not lit and now you have a gas leak in the house.
