Crossbow Question

I just purchased a used crossbow and I want to know if I can use any arrows and cut them down. I not looking to get beat-up, just need to know if there is a difference between Crossbow Bolts and regular arrows other than length.

DO NO SHOOT NORMAL ARROWS! Their spine is weak enough (relatively speaking) that you stand a real chance of blowing them up in the bow.
