Seems kinda late to get out thereb4 it's dark?
I've been trying to stalk hunt the past few times I've been out but it's real dry out right now so it's tough feels like I'm walking on potato chips. I got out there about 4pm saw about 7 does a few Armadillos that was it.

It's still real early for the piggies in Granger. (They're best to hunt very early right now. Coolest part of the day.)

Yes, stalk.

Aim quick, they'll have their Nikes on.

It's best with some overcast days, light rain, and hopefully nothing above 60F for a high temp. You can find'em and whack'em between now and then... but why?

(joking!)

Good luck!

Paddle across in the kayak. You can walk in from the trail head. Never done it, always seems to be enough hogs between 6 and 7.

You could ride a bicycle from the trail head also. Again, it's to hot for this old man. Waiting for mid December.

I guess I'm just lazy!!!! Lol

(Or too fat)... SMDH...

If I had a yack I'd be all over the pigs (I've heard'em over across the river when shooting squirrels)

I saw a small one across the river and if I shot him with my bow I just have no idea how to go get him!?!?

When u say "trail head" do u mean from the 95? All the way along the river? If so I really need a boat!!! Haha

Thanks for the info everyone and u guys are correct... (Come Dec/Jan hogs, squirrels and ANYTHING huntable will be in TROUBLE

There is a trail head behind the water treatment plant. I think people have said its a roughly 3 mile hike to the campground. Then you can get to those other areas from there. Ive made it several times. The trail itself has quite a few up and down hills. It can wear you out for sure.

Ok... (I said screw it and bought me a used canoe for 100.!!!!! WAHOO!!! 16ft of SWEETNESS....

It's an old timer with three seats and storage, cooler and rod holder!(guy was moving and had no way to keep it!!

NOW I just need to cut to fit a 2x4 for my trolling motor mount!

SO HERE IS THE QUESTION!!!!!

where are some "hot spots" along the waters edge!?!?! Lol

Also, I've ALWAYS Got extra room for another rider/hunter!

Best thing about this canoe (my lazy butt can drop in and NOT have to walk forever to find a good hunting location!

Sounds great! I love ALL outdoor activities... (Hell I enjoy just setting there watching grass grow!!). Lol

I'm going to pick up my trolling motor here in a few, (40# minn kotafor 75.00). I should be all ready in another day or two!

Setting jug lines are cool because then I can go hunt and just check them on the way out of the water and then the next morning...

Sore finger is where the pigs are at! Ask yoga pants. No water craft required.

Also, launching a kayak/canoe setting jugs hog hunting and pulling up jugs is very ambitious. Been there done that. I highly recommend not going to sore finger for hogs, and choosing your game. Jugs or hogs. You can't have it all. Unless you plan on just working your *** off. Bring your drill instructor. After launching, setting jugs, stalking all day the last thing you want to do is have to drag a hog, then go pull all your jugs, then drag your watercraft/bow/hog/hunting gear/ fishing gear straight up the bank "again". It will make want a day off from your day off.

Sore finger rocks!!!!!!!

That post is helarious but true. Pulling the kayak up the luanch is work. But if you have a couple of guys with you, team work makes it easier. But be all you can be and get on it. We will see you out there sometime.

I am glad i found this thread....been looking for a good, local, free spot to chase some pigs. I have read a bunch of previous threads. One interesting post back in mid 2014 referenced hunting with dogs....is this not allowed? I have a great tracking Lacy Dog, sure would make the tracking easier. She is trained at Baying, not at CATCHING.

On a side note, I have a boat, canoe, and a kayak. If any seasoned vets need a a ride across the lake, give me a holler. This sounds like a hoot!

However if you have a deer tracking specific type of dog I think I personally might risk it if I shot a giant buck and couldn't find.

Another nice thing about canoes and kayaks is the ability to get your 140 lb prize back to gate 7 with a minimum of effort.

By the way, good deal Lightsouthunter; a 16 ft OldTimer with cooler rodholder for $100; that is a really great deal.

NightStalker and others: are there any good areas to land a kayak on the side side of the river and not get wet? I recall last year folks said most of the banks were too steep to make a dry exit.

Right at the primitive camp is an easy exit, at least for canoe. Look for the beaten path leading away from the water. You cant exactly 'see' the primitive camp itself from down on the water.

Very well. Thank you for the info. Im gonna stay away to let the tag holders harvest...for at least a month...mid November will hopefully be a cooler time to go chase some hogs.

Last time at Granger, I drank 3 liters of water going in. I was tapped...dry....upon retrograde. Not fun cramping with two miles of bush hike ahead. Ill bring salt tablets next summer hunt...and more water.

I am locked up during the week, working for the man. But i am free most weekends. Going to Rocksprings next weekend to see if deer are finally moving. If open this weekend, 10/10/15, maybe we can get something rolling.

I can bring the canoe out.

Anybody been out to see where the fire was out there? I couldn't tell from the TV broadcast, but it looked like the South side close to the primitive camp?
