Today, the new permits for the 2017-2018 season should be available both on-line. And at the office. If you have never hunted there, you will have to mail in the info and wait till they mail the permit back. Or go pick it up in person at the office.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kilt. Gotta go!

Haven't fished but 1 time last year and 1 the year before. Had one pack of fish left and need to fill the freezer before deer season. Went week before last and put 14 fillets in the freezer. Went today and will put about 24 fillets in the freezer. Maybe another trip or two and should be good.

I'll be at work for the next two weeks so this isn't a problem for me. I have to wait to get my license anyway

I agree too coop they're very healthy this year. I saw several while scouting the other day. I'm looking forward to this year. I think we're all gonna come out pretty good. Happy hunting all

Who's gonna be the first in this group to get they're license? Pic, or it didn't happen.

I thought about going and getting it tomorrow I haven't decided yet. Since I have to wait to get home to do my permit I may just wait and do it all at once

Yesterday was a big change from what I was seeing through July. In July 80% of the doe I saw had fawns with them. Yesterday I did not see any fawns on the Corp land My mind immediately jumped to the conclusion that fawn mortality may have jumped due to a predator issue. The fawns I have seen in the area (off Corp) still had spots and were clinging close to mama. Will probably be back again late next week to go out again.

Went out scouting today and saw two trucks with 5 or 6 guys going in with shotguns around 10:30, can you hog hunt with shotgun? I'm assuming that's what they were doing.

NO! Hogs are archery equipment only.

They could have been squirrel hunting.

Remember, your cell phone can take video.

Wasn't sure about that. Maybe squirrel as they weren't shy about getting geared up out by the road.

TG, I beg to differ sir, direct from the online regs.

AUTHORIZED WEAPONS

Deer hunting is restricted to legal archery equipment only. Crossbows are allowed. Shotguns are authorized for hunting other game during legal seasons in areas open for hunting. Anyone hunting with a shotgun may not use, or possess any shot larger than #2. The use of non-toxic USFW approved shot is required for waterfowl hunting. All weapons MUST be unloaded when transported to, from and between hunting sites. Target practice or the "sighting in" of any weapon is strictly prohibited. Rifles (of any caliber, including air rifles and BB guns), handguns, and muzzleloaders are prohibited.

I thought the same thing but didn't have time to look it up. I'm mike's defense though I think they just changed it last year or the year before because when I first started doing core land they were archery only

Sho-nuff, your right . Would have swore it was in there. Oh well. I shot a hog on private property one time with buckshot (Dale Moser's place/lease). I'll never do that again. Used three 3-1/2" 12ga 00 buck. Took three rounds to put it down with an extra full Turkey choke and a 24" barrel. That's 18 pellets per load. First shot was at 35 yards. broke the front left leg and hit neck and ribs. Second was at 10 at the neck. It broke the front right leg, hit neck and ribs. He rolled off into a creek bed squirming try-n to get up, and couldn't get up after that. So I put the last one in the head at 10 yards. Arra dose a better job than buckshot. And I ain't shoot-n no pig with #2, sans rules.

After shoot-n that hog, I walked back to camp and got my Winny 30-'06. I was out of shotty shells . Went back, and shot another in the head. Took home 550lbs of hog that weekend. Went and bought a meat band saw the next day too.

Yeah I ain't shooting them with #2 either. Shot 3 in a matter of a half hour or so a few years back with a bow and it was one shot apiece. Of course that's a back killer at my age after cleaning them

Not I. I've got to many things coming up this weekend. Besides, they just gonna do the same thing they have always done.

I'll wait till it cools down a bit to get out. I don't want anybody walk up on my bloated carcass because of the heat.
I"m bloated enough as it is.

I went to Gas Monkey last night for a meeting with North Texas Jeep Club. Had a great time and won a free windshield replacement for a jeep. While we own 2 jeeps we dont need the windshields replaced.

I may go and do something at the expo, I need to call the lady that is heading it up and see what is going on. Below is the email that I rcvd:

We at Dinosaur Valley State Park are having our first ever Bowhunting and Archery Expo on September 23! The purpose of the event is to promote the sport of archery and educate the public on safe hunting practices. It will feature a full archery range, 3D archery tournament, bow fishing range, vendors, giveaways, food, music, and more!

I had no reason to fib. 250 hours in the woods, no meat in the freezer. Hoping to put my rookie season behind me and move forward. I like to think I learned a lot over the last year and have built some confidence as well. Can't wait for the season to get here.

Temps look good for a little while. Lows in the lower 70s next week too. That will make for a nice ride to work with no A/C in my truck.

I was driving home this afternoon. And there's a traffic slowdown. Come to find out people were waiting in line to get gas. I bought gas Sunday evening for the truck. And Tuesday evening for the Lil car. It's all going to be over in a few weeks. And prices will be back to normal. Everyone is trying to fill up because the price is going up over the next few days. Then will hold there due to demand for a little while. Then it will drop, short of having another disaster.

The fish are biting, and there's hogs to be kilt. Gotta go!

So I went out to check my sites the other day. Parked where I normally do and take off walking, about 60-70 yards past the entrance I walked up on a dude stretched out on a blanket asleep. Wouldn't have bothered me as I'm not a ranger and my truck was locked except he was bare *** naked. So I went on in a little further and called ACE to come get him. They showed up about the time I was getting back out and handled the situation
