Shot a sow last Friday. She has been on ice with the drain open .

The plan was to put her on the pit today , buy plans have changed.
Will she be ok on ice until next weekend?
Like I said I leave the drain open so the meat isn't sitting in the water and I keep more than enough ice on it to keep it covered.

No way I'd risk getting my family or friends ill.

Never done it this time of year, but in the Fall/Winter, I keep all my game on ice at least 10 days to 2 weeks for aging pork, venison, etc. ... If it's covered in ice, I don't see a problem with it.

I agree. As long as the meat has been kept cold it should be good 2 or 3 weeks.

It’ll be fine. Don’t let it sit in standing water.

There will be no doubt when she starts to turn. When you pull her out to cook her, put her right up to your nose. You’ll know immediately whether to cook her or toss her.

Not a problem, helps get all the blood out, I’ve done deer and hogs on ice for up to 4-5 weeks ! I go until there is no more blood draining or the water is a light pink, its just more of a pain Having to keep changing out the ice.

Just a thought for future game. Freeze milk jugs or 2 ltr coke bottles. That way you can leave the drain closed and it will stay cooler. I usually put them on bottom with a trashbag barrier.
