I did the archery hunt at Lake Brownwood SP December 5-7.
There was a youth rifle hunt the previous weekend where almost all of the children went home with deer. We were hunting many of the same stands.
They had been running feeders for roughly about a month. The stands ranged from a normal pop-up to a wood box blind. I didn't have any space issues.
I would recommend bringing your own chair, but they did provide chairs.
Stands were lotto draw. There were 6 hunters.
My first stand I watched up to 16 turkeys clean up the corn. I had scattered some hand corn as well, so they didn't get it all picked up. The turkeys really don't bother the deer, but I didn't see any deer. I think only one guy saw deer the first night.
I got to watch turkeys again the first morning and no deer.
Many of us switched stands Tuesday night since only one or two people were seeing anything. I still didn't see any deer. Got to watch a raccoon eat corn instead of turkey. The birds were more entertaining.
I enjoyed the hunt as I normally do. They really want you to be successful. I skipped the Wednesday morning hunt. One hunter killed a spike Tuesday night.
