    ATV in Altitude

    Wasn't sure which section to post this. I'm leaving Wednesday for Colorado and plan to carry two 4 wheelers with me. A friend mentioned yesterday that if I take them into the high altitude of Colorado it could ruin the engine there or when I return. Any thoughts on this?

    If they are not fuel injected you will need to get them jetted. If fuel injected your good

      I don't think it would ruin them but may not run as good.

        Fuel injection will self adjust. Carborated will run rich, meaning there will be a high fuel to air ratio. It will not ruin them they just won't run great at altitude.

          Fuel injection = No problem at all.

          Carbureted = Probably no problem.

          My fuel injected 2008 Honda 680 Rincon runs perfect at any elevation.

          So does my carbureted 1999 Honda 450 Foreman.

          If you have a carbureted model, find a dealer/mechanic in the area and call ahead to discuss with them the possibility of helping you out if you get there and discover a need to re-jet.
          Or, find out which jets you may need and take them along with you just in case. They are normally easy enough to swap out.

          Chances are good that you won't need to do a thing at all.

          Good Luck!

                  Buena Vista is beautiful and isn't all that high in elevation either. I have seen some dandy deer there and some pretty good trout fishing there as well.
