    How much heat?

Getting supplies and material together. Will an alcohol burner get bamboo and wood hot enough to straighten? Should I just get a torch?

You have to watch how hot you get bamboo, it will split if you're not careful.

For most woods and bamboo, heat isn't really needed. With Hardwoods like Ash or Maple it sometimes is required. If so, I'll lay the shaft in a 1/2" piece of aluminum angle clamped to a bench and heat it with a heat gun (the angle helps the heat to enter from both sides at the same time), and helps the shaft from cooling off too quickly as your back and forth motion goes up and down the shaft. Wear gloves.

With bamboo, I straighten each length individually, and then full length at the end.

Here's a link to one of three videos on how I straighten raw shafts and finished arrows. This certainly isn't the only way.....just a way I came up with many years ago and works for me.

      Hope this helps......and enjoy!
