Well, in 2008 I hung a stand along the river and 50 pounded it. It's about 250 yards from the steps on the opposite side. I didnt know the rules as well as I should have. I had a green kill light up on some 550 cord over the corn pile. I killed two pigs on back to back nights. I made the mistake of telling someone at Double G what I did. They were like, ooooooohhhhh you gonna get it, lmfao. It's just pigs. I havent hunted at night since, but it sure is the best way in the summer. The stand is still locked up 20 ft in the tree. The key is below it somewhere lost in the ground cover. Some of yall may have seen it.

Awesome! They were out to 6 weeks for a while.

I'm debating on bringing my saddle to GRXH...

Granger is an awesome place for a saddle run and gun setup

So I wasn’t aware of such a thing. Why are they so popular? What’s the benefit over a lock-on or climber?

They weigh like 15oz and you can walk-in with them. They also give you 360 degrees of mobility in a tree. I hear they are awesome for mobility. I hunted Hagerman this year and was hauling a lock-on and ladder steps 2 miles in. A 15oz saddle would have been perfect!

After seeing your post I started researching these but couldn’t find a YouTube video of someone actually climbing with one. I have multiple climbers but they are heavy. What is the climbing method with these?? Thanks for sharing the idea. Never been aware of them.

Biggest benefit is size and weight. This pic is everything I need to be at hunting height (my top-step platform for the sticks hasn't came in yet but it bolts to to top stick and only adds about 1lb)

Whole thing weights about 8lb, vs 12-15 for a stand alone, plus I can toss that in a day pack, strap on the sticks and be good to go.

Safety is increased too, you literally can't fall out of the stand since you are strapped in, I suppose the tether could break but mine is the same stuff military dudes jump out of helicopters with so I'm not too worried about it for what I'm using it for.

What climbing sticks and top step platform are you using? I think I’m going this route next year, especially for public land hunting.

Seems cool, but not for the price on Tethrd. $500 without tree steps, sys haulers, or ropemans, ugh!

I made mine from a sit-drag some dyneema rope and a rock climbing harness. I have maybe $150 in everything but the steps.

I've heard good stuff about Tethrd but they are proud of their gear! I believe it's all US made at least.

I actually like the 2 part setup, it may be overkill but I like having the RCH as a backup just in case the saddle fails vs having just a single unit

Have you done all days sits in it? Is it comfortable? I know my @$$ hurts when I sit on a seat all day. Wondering if these are more comfortable or if the straps dig in after awhile.

I have not, longest ive been in it was about 4hrs. I don't think I could sit in any one spot all day long but some guys do it.

It takes some tweaking and getting used to, there was some hip pinch until I got everything all adjusted. Getting into "saddle shape" is a real thing.

It's a calf workout doing a half-lean half-sit for that long too.. lol

I saw that. Figured it would be on backorder before released so I just ordered the Mantis on sale.

Going to use my Muddy Pro sticks with 1 step aides.
I already have a linemans rope I made with an ascended and and 8mm climbing rope. Will make my main rope the same way.

What ascender are you using? 8mm rope is no bueno on a ropeman FYI

Why is the 8mm no good? If its strong enough to catch a dynamic rock climbing fall seems like it would have no problem holding a static load in a tree

8mm is fine for a tether, just not for use with a Ropeman 1.

It's not about the rope strength, it's the OD of the rope. The Ropeman 1 is only rated to grip from 10-13mm rope.

The Ropeman 2 is rated for 8-13mm rope, so if that's what he's using or some different ascender then carry on.

With that said I've hung from an 8mm tether with a Ropeman 1, just at ground level to see if it would work though and it held. I wouldn't trust it at height though.

Ropeman 2s currently. I'm not a fan of the cam teeth. Looking at trying the Petzel Basic.

Ah, gotcha. Those Ropeman 2 teeth are nasty looking... I use Predator Rope for my tether and linemans with a ropeman 1 on the tether, will probably put one on the linemans belt eventually too

That is cool. Love the u bolts axle attach.
I used remants from a rusted BBQ pit for wheels and axle for my Kayak carrier. I swiped my Grand kids pool noodle for the cushion.
Carry on the Innovation young man!
I am still on the ground.

Hopefully the sheath on your 8mm is pretty rugged. The ropeman 2 is hell on rope sheaths when used in the same location over and over like we do in saddle hunting.

Saw my first Sounder today, was about 20 of them. Half of them were piglets but there was a couple big ones in the group. They were running through the woods about 100 yards from me and stopped to do what pigs do. Got to within about 60 yards when they heard a noise from across the lake(shotgun I think) and proceeded to haul it out of there. Tried to follow them but lost em.

Yeah, I was using on my treestand ropes. They will be repurposed and news kongs or r2s purchased for the saddle setup.

I am having a saddle meet and greet at Granger lake Saturday Jan 25th to practice and learn together. Thread is in Around the campfire page.

Hopefully some veterans show to help up newbies out.

Good luck to y’all. I got on one big sounder and twice on singles but couldn’t get a shot off!

Bummer. At least it's better than not seeing anything

If any of y'all plan to go out on a Monday (those are usually my days off) and would like someone to tag along let me know. I won't be hunting just want to learn more and see someone with experience before I buy a bow. So if any of y'all are willing to teach a new hunter or just let me watch, shoot me a PM.

Headed out there tomorrow, does anybody know if the river is running again below the dam? I haven’t been out there since August, it was dried up into holes back then.

I frequently get off work early and head out for the afternoon. As long as you're legal I could bring my crossbow for you. As of very recently I've got a bunch of hog meat and would prefer to bring my shotgun for squirrels and rabbits. If you're up for that kind of teamwork I'm almost always down. I'm by no means a granger pig expert but I can offer extremely rudimentary tips. I just love being out there and spending time with like mind folks

This. My lineman's belt uses a static rope and that ascender does some serious damage to it. I've heard the amsteel sheath is better with the 2.

I am having a saddle meet and greet at Granger lake Saturday Jan 25th to practice and learn together. Thread is in Around the campfire page.

Hopefully some veterans show to help up newbies out.
I have a Aero hunter from 2 seasons ago and might be free on the 25th. I’ll keep an eye on the thread and try to come out as well. I also have a set of wild edge climbers. I’ve only been to Granger one time and that was when I first moved here so would need help finding y’all.
