    Dog Question...

My 2 year old lab got neutered last Wednesday and they told us he shouldn't swim for 2 weeks. Well this morning my wife walked outside with the dogs to make sure he doesn't swim and he B-lined for the pool and dove in. It has been 5 days, my wife is afraid his incision may get infected... any advice on this??

I would doubt that pool water would infect the incision. I think the no swimming policy is more to let the incision heal.

Keep an eye on it and use a topical antiboitic

Probably more worried about swimming in a stock pond than a pool

Did the vet put him on antibiotics? Either way, I wouldn't be too concerned. If he licked the incision at all, even once, there is more bacteria there than that pool.

Agree with with dirtydave and shine. Watch it and maybe use a little ointment. We never had a problem our outdoor farm dogs.

side effects of swimming too soon after surgery:

              nuts fall off
              dog gets wet
              dog gets stinky

The chlorine in the pool probably cleaned it out for you.

A chlorine pool would be the least of my worries.
