So last week I had 2 crews from Arkansas in helping us close a line that we were on. My guys work 4/10ís, those guys work 5/8ís. Thursday evening I rolled out and headed this way. They worked and headed home. Monday I get to work and most of our tools and equipment are not where the line boss from AR told me they were. Iíll be completely honest... I fulled expected they were kn a pawn shop somewhere between Etoile, TX and northern Arkansas. The guys that make yo that crew are almost 100% previously convicted felons, and current meth monkeys. That said theyíre pretty good hands and were a big help, so forgive me for being a tad judgmental.

Monday was a wash, and I had an all brand new crew from Shepherd. The oldest one was 20. If any of yíall are from Shepherd and these 3 boys are any indication of the rest of the town yíall are doing a jam up job of raising them. Good kids, hard workers, and they pay attention. Yesterday rolls around and 2 of them txt and said theyíd be late, the other txt saying his brakes went out and he needed the rest of the week off to work on his truck. The boss usually only wants us running a full and complete crew so I called her to fill her in, she says scrap the week and start over on Monday.

Fine by me. I had the 2 that were late meet me and I cut them a short check, thanked them for their work and told them weíd hit it again on Monday. My brain goes straight to the deer lease and I see this front coming! I go home and throw my warm clothes in the wash and had brunch with Steph and the kids and remember a big gas can and my soft sided cooler are staged out in the woods so I go to grab them while the clothes finish washing/ drying.

Itís in the absolute middle of nowhere on a dead end road surrounded by a high fence. (Some of you probably have figured out the location. For reasons thatíll be made obvious in just a second, please keep that to yourself) I parked my truck on the side of the CR like Iíve been doing for almost 2 months, unloaded the side x side, and went in through the high fence. I wasnít gone 15-20 minutes TOPS! I grabbed my stuff and when I get back to my truck the driver side rear door is open... My AR, pistols, binos, range finder, a $12,000 gps unit I use for work and several other things are still laying in the seat but I look in the back of my truck and 100% of our tools are gone. Every piece of equipment that I meed for work had been stolen and they were about to get everything in my truck when I pulled up.

So most of yesterday was spent with the Nacogdoches Co Constables going over everything. Too much to type but I have a pretty good idea who it is based on an encounter earlier in the week but for now Iíll let the LEOís do their work. So thatís how I ended up here when I thought after Monday Iíd be working all weekend.

Starting to break light now, Iíll keep yíall
in the loop.
Glad to hear the part about the boys from Shepherd. We have our share of meth heads like anywhere else but I like to think most of us turn out alright!

Iíve had 5 now from Shepard and Cold Spring and they have been jam up! The one from Cold Spring was and absolute all star. I havenít seen a lot of grown men thatíll work like that, much less a 22 year old ďkidĒ. I sure hated to lose him but thereís no way I would have held him back.

You know you have to agree to those things right?

Sorry for the lack of updates, Iíve been pinned down all morning. Iím 90% sure I bumped my target deer this morning. There were 2 deer bedded by the stand and one of them was a foot between his eyes.

Does and a spike here now but I have to be crazy still. This stand faces east and the sun is right on me. Did I tell yíall itís cold??? I wouldnít risk firing up the heater this morning, itís too still. Deer getting nervous, got to go.

Shoot amigo, weíre high classing it now. I got the furnace and water heater rolling yesterday. Yíall coming up this weekend?

This hunt is basically over. I need to be gone already but I donít want to blow the deer out that are. Wind is doing exactly what the weatherman said it would. In the next 30min itíll be dead wrong.

Iím back after the 9 I guess. The set up isnít right here. I despise bowhunting a property without a chance to see how theyíre using it and thatís what is happening here. Like a rookie I set this place up where the most sign was at and I know better than that. The whole thing needs to be moved about 150yds south of here and itíll get moved but itíll have to be when I have some man power. Half *** and intrusion are the two things I hate the most and thereís a whole
lot of both going on with this set. Lots of deer season left though, weíll work it out.

Iíve been here for nearly an hour but just now got the odds and ends ironed out. A group of does just eased by in the shelter belt 75yds to the east and theyíre still working around as I type this. Wind speed is ideal bit direction is a little touch and go. Itís supposed to get some more east in it within the next hour but until then Iím gonna lean on the Ozonics a little harder than I like.

The wind is starting to get that east that the promised. It’s been slow since my last update. I’m hoping that pile of deer bedded just on the other side of the berm in the shelter belt. There was a pile of them, snd if they did it should be a pretty steady parade in about 15min when the feeder spins.

So I went from being a hunter to a rancher... Land owners pulled up (first time I have met them) to check the antifreeze on a tractor... Shortly after he walked by my feeder I decided to go introduce myself. Just as I was walking up to him he fell off the hood of the tractor... “Tractors” here are combines and this one in particular is a 300hp so it’s like 8’ to the hood. Fortunately he fell in soft sand and was ok. I had a good talk with them, helped them work on the tractor, found out some new information, and may have a line on another pasture or two.
