Default Kids hunting license/divorced parents

Parents divorced. Mom buys son lifetime hunting license. Dad gets on lease and now mom won't let son use his license except to hunt with her. There has to be a way around this! Any suggestions?

All you have to do is go to Academy with his social security # and get a replacement license $5

I don't know about this. Cause now he has 2 licenses. My suggestion would to be contact GW. and attorney. Also offer to pay for half of cost. Put it in writing.

Call game warden when kid is with dad...tell him mom is hunting under sons license (if she has it in possession it is assumed she is hunting with it since he gone)...get lifetime card from mom while she is in jail.

You're welcome.

Jk of course but that is cruel

oh look...what is that?

Can you buy a kids license at Academy for him even though he already has one? I think they are $5

If dad gets visitation rights, I'm not sure how mom can dictate what they do, especially if it's an activity she's obviously okay with the kid doing. Might need to talk to a lawyer. It sounds like she bought the lifetime license for the express purpose of using the "I bought it, he can't use it with you" reasoning. If mom truly cares about her son, she'd want him to be able to hunt with his dad.

Yeah I know there have been worse things that go on but this is messed up. They have been divorced for years! Usually help each other out all the time with the kids. Then today she throws this at him. He has full custody so they are with him most of the time anyway.

If that's the case, I'm not sure how she can do this. Not sure how it works with minors, but it's HIS license now, not hers. I don't see how she can do something that keeps her ex from doing something legal with his son, especially with him having full custody. It's not like a bicycle that she keeps at her house and doesn't want the kid to take home with him. This is something that the dad can't just buy another one so that the kid has one at each parent's house

What a Nasty Woman, I wouldn’t think it would matter who purchased the license it’s in the kids name therefore it’s theirs to use.

It's not me, my kids are all grown. It's a buddy of mine who call very upset, I won't repeat the conversation because this is a public sight. Lol. I will have a hard time looking her in the eye the next time I see her. I have no use for people who pull this crap with kids. You want to hurt me, go ahead, but don't use kids to do it.

Go to academy and pay for a lost license and update/ change the mailing address for the hunter. It’s not moms license no matter who paid for it.

This is your best bet... you are not supposed to have multiple licenses obviously.... it might not be good if the wrong warden realize the young hunter was hunting with multiple licenses....

When I purchased the lifetime licenses for my nephews I was told they would have to turn their current licenses in at the time of purchasing the lifetime one...

Thats kinda what Im thinking. Its his personal effect and custodial parent usually has priority over minors legal matters etc.

Brian, I'm no attorney. But would think if he has soul custody, I would bet that the license would go with the child. And would think she bought the child a gift. I would bet he has rights to all assets the child has unless it is stated in the divorce decree. But he needs to consult with an attorney on it. This is not legal advice.

I had an x that would "play the kids" all the time. They are grown, and now recognize that. And have very little to do with their mother.

Sounds like my ex brother in law. He didn't do that but wouldn't let us take my nephews hunting cause he wanted to be the first to do so. He was always deployed and when he was home he never made the time. Still does stuff to make things difficult on my sister.

Mine wife had twins when we married, their father has demanded to be the one to purchase our sons first firearm. Okay, I can understand that. So for 3 years now, we have wanted to get my son and her son both their first own rifles. I've held off on getting my son his, so that they would both have their own to shoot with when we go to the farm. Stepsons father demands over and over that it's his right to purchase his sons first firearm, and told my wife he was getting him one every year for the last 3 years. 3 years in a row, he's lied. I'm done waiting...my wife told him last year that he'd better buy it then, or forfeit that right. He didn't...she's not waiting another year I'm sure he'll be PO'ed, but the twins are turning 12 this year and he's been asking for a Henry Lever Action .22 or a O/U 20 gauge.

That's the greatest thing I've read in awhile!!!!

On to the original question, it is the Kids license for HIS lifetime, not Mom's. If your buddy calls to the GW headquarters in Austin and inquires on Lifetime Licenses, he'll talk to the lady in charge and she can answer any questions. She's real nice, super helpful and is the one who processed mine and answered all my questions since I decided to buy right before I moved out of state.

Call the Game Warden!!!
You are not allowed to hold a license that is not yours. License belongs to the kid. Doesn't matter who paid for it. She is in violation by even having it in her possession.

The profanity filter on TBH is limiting how I really feel, but this C-U-Next-Tuesday needs a visit from the Game Warden to explain this to her face.

Lets apply the same thing to a Drivers License.
You cant take your kids drivers license. That is illegal. Same thing. You can take the kids car if you bought it, but not the license.

If she really wants to fight this, then it may have to go back to court and be put in the divorce papers (*Edit, I see this is already getting underway lol)

This situation reminded me of Judge Judy berating an ex-wife for denying visitation.

Just take her to court. Judge won't appreciate her attitude. And it will set the rules going forward. And if your friend decides to go for 50/50 at some point, a record of this won't be bad to have.

You Snooze, you loose. If I had to wait for my stepkids bio-dad to do anything lol. I treat the kids as my own and do as we please. He was ticked I took my daughter to hunters safety class for her 10th bday and got her license. He's not a hunter and doesnt think the kids should be shooting/hunting lol.

Yeah, most judges dont put up with stuff like this. Really shows her true colors. She's only hurting the kid. Well, she'll be hurting herself once the judge hears about it too lol
