Angry Seriously?

We pay some of the highest school taxes in the state here in Allen. I got an e-mail from my granddaughters elementary school asking that every students family donates $75 so the play ground can be upgraded. I thought our taxes paid for stuff like this.

These school admins just like most govt admin types are huge empire builders. Little kids cant even have a playground because they want to say they have a bigger football stadium. We need a re emergence of the guillotine to fix these people.

School boards in general are no different from any other politicians. They are good at spending "our" money. Seguin ISD recently spent $1,000,000 on a football field score board.

Allen, Mckinney, Katy football stadiums are ridiculous..

Now, Celina is breaking ground on an insane 24M dollar athletic complex.

Can't believe some of y'all have never seen Allen's stadium.
Every time I went on a trip, and people asked where I was from and I replied Allen, they all would say the same thing: "Oh! You're from the school that paid $60M for a stadium just for it to crack in one season!!"

It is a nice stadium. Lot of other schools playoff games are played in it.

Used to drive by the stadium every day on my way to work. If they don't have enough money for a playground then they can't handle money. Effem!

That would be it.

That picture doesn't show all the cracks that led to them closing the stadium two years after it opened. It was closed for over a year so that they could make $10M in repairs to a stadium that was less than two years old.

Texas is ridiculous with football. Tons of wasted money on sports when it should be invested in things that will help in the workforce. At least the fast food industry will never have an employee shortage.

So, they have the money for a 100m stadium and.probanly already made you buy enough school supplies for 10 kids and now want more money for upgrades....I'd be tempted to send a return letter with the words PIZZ OFF! in bold print.

Its a reoccurring theme for districts. Crosby ISD is broke and looking at mid year layoffs. Prior administration officials overspent by million dollars over the last 3 school years and now we are having to dig out of the hole. Its going to be a mess for a while. Teachers have been told they shouldn't use copy paper and are having to email parents to setup classroom donations so that they have enough supplies to make effective lessons for the kids.

FWIW, the playgrounds that are "approved" are much more expensive than you think. Our Kindergarten Center is trying to fund raise for a new playground and its around $75k....and doesn't get you near what you think it should.

Don't forget CY-Fair ISD in NW Houston, the stadium there is a twin for the Allen stadium
with a adjoining coliseum and arena that rivals most major universities.

Prosper is building a great stadium / Natatorium / Banquet hall. I can't wait.

Allen is an awesome facility. They house a lot of sports, and a ton of other games.

I'm not as big of a fan of the McKinney stadium. It's big, but I believe the Allen field looks better.

True, but the CyFair facility serves twelve 6A high schools. CyFair is the third largest district in the state behind only Houston ISD and Dallas ISD.

Allen has been passed up by those two. McKinney and Katy stadiums cost more. I figure not to be out done, Allen will put a retractable roof on next.

People also keep forgetting that taxpayers voted for Allen’s new stadium and also forget that the old stadium could not seat enough people.
Allen is a powerhouse for sports.
The stadium is not what is taking up the budget this year. That is well paid off now. It is the new freshman center that is nicer than the main high school that just got finished being built.

The freshman center is ridiculous too! I've received 4 e-mails this week alone asking for some type of donations for things that I feel should be covered by our taxes.

Allen routinely packs out their stadium. They have 6400 HS students, and this facility doesnt just house the football games.

Prosper is one of the fastest growing cities in America and plays their football games at a facility that was made when they were a 2A school. Parking spills over into neighborhoods, and standing room only is the norm. The new stadium will be the home to more than just a football stadium and will house 2 HS's.

Fort Bend ISD has 11 5A and 6A high schools. Lamar Consolidated ISD has 5 or 6 6A high schools. Katy has nine 6A high schools. There are some big districts in the greater Houston Area.

Football is the ONLY thing in the school that is profitable.. Think of the losses they take on all the other school sports (traveling, uniforms etc).... It's a non for profit until they stack 20k people in at $10 (+) bucks a pop on a Friday night. Nothing else in school districts do pay the bills like a football team.

Of course, i'm not actually sure how funds, tax dollars etc are allocated, but the above makes sense in my head haha.

They've literally held College games there. Many other cities come in to play their games there. There is literally no other facility that can accommodate their band and practices.

And it's not just a field. They have a whole facility there for the various teams.

Then the local taxpayers should not be burdened with that debt if colleges and other schools are coming there to play games.

They make money when that happens. Hosting UIL playoff games, college games, 7on7 tournaments, Soccer playoff games, band competitions. Districts with big stadiums have a people that seek out and book these events because they make the district money.
