Bad thing is that there was most likely shrapnel above, below, left, and right of that pistol. Those pieces probably found something softer.

I have read a lot about that battle and seen many documentaries. Seeing that, you know the guy who was carrying it, most likely died on the spot. That is something you won't see in a documentary. The reality of how deadly modern warfare is and has been for quite a while.
