PROTEIN FEEDERS: Feed tubes vs. Feed Plate

I'm working to switch a protein feeder over to incorporate the Hammer timed feeder unit. I'm going to build the lower unit and trying to decided with using the hammer if results would be better with 2 or 3 individual feed tubes or just the round flat plate the feed falls onto. Any feedback from those who have used both?
