Fresh Caught Trout - How Long will it stay safe in fridge?

Caught some specs on Tuesday and filleted them out. Cooked some that night and have a little left over today and wanted to fry the rest up. The fillets have been in a ziplock in the refrigerator. Google says 2 to 3 days after purchase at most, what does the green screen say? I'm going to fry them and eat them anyway but wanted to see what a good rule of thumb is for future reference.

Restaurant friends have always said 4-5 days. If they don't smell bad go for it.

Cook or freeze today. Grew up making week long trips to Last Island and bring ice chest full home. As long as they have been good and cold your good today to cook or freeze.

Once defrosted I cook them the same day or the next day.

Up to a week, and I always go by the smell test.

You are good to go. I do that all the time and never have had a problem. I have some now that I caught Monday. Cooked some Wednesday and cooking the rest today.

I've never had a problem giving them 6 to 7 days.

I've had a stack of fillets in the fridge for over a week and they were fine. I probably wouldn't go that long now, that's back before I knew better! Your nose is your friend, as long as they've been kept cold and pass the sniff test you should be ok.

If 2-3 days after purchase us good I would say they might go 2 weeks after caught. Think about how long it takes to ship and stock items in a store before you ever purchase.

If it smells good, cook 'em up. If it smells iffy, use it for catfish bait.
