Default Draw Hunts

Nobody else has said it so I will, anxiously awaiting the new draw booklet. Should come out in early July, less than a month to go.

I'm thinking of donating some $ to TPWD this year. Probably won't be drawn at the H with no points, COE land is still flooded or all rotten vegetation, have another spot but I don't much care to be out with the gun hunters. May fish instead.

I'm getting pretty old but if I remember correctly the booklets are mailed to the purchasers of the $48 permit with the new licenses which are usually out on August 1.

The new Granger deadline was June 1.
TPWD made it a separate draw like Georgetown.

Very much looking forward to the drawings. There were quite a few hunts I followed and it looked to be a lot of fun. I nerded out and made a spreadsheet with: odds of drawing, dates, success rates, methods allowed, and driving distance to each of the hunt locations. Should make for a more strategic approach by investing in the hunts that are actually viable for me to attend.

Hoping for a H draw this year(roughly a 89% chance). Made it to Aransas last year, super tough hunt, that being said may put in for it again this year. Should have enough point to pick up an exotic hunt along the way.

After many tries, we finally got picked for Chaparral last year. Boy was that a disappointing hunt. The place felt like you were in a game preserve with all its rules and regs on the game animals. You can shoot this but we prefer you don't. That place is highly overrated in my opinion. I hunted a lot of drawn hunts through the years. And there are much better places.

Doesn't matter anyway. There's no deer at Granger. Not even worth putting in for.

In the situation you described Iíd shoot whatever the heck I legally could. Could care less about their wishes. The new draw system is ridiculous, if I draw ever again, lead and arrows will fly every chance I get regardless of their wishes. Texas public hunt system=joke, but Iíll put in Iím sure.

I'll give my $100 dollar donation to TPWD at a chance of hunting with my son. Going to go ahead and donate some to the mule deer draw this year.

I’ve got 7-9pts in a bunch of categories so hoping that’s enough for one of them. I’m still holding out for the H even though with 0 points the odds aren’t good

I heard the same about Matador. It's a shame that Matador was taken off the hunt list because of no more deer.

We killed the only 3 bucks we saw at Matador, and now it’s an antlerless hunt.

I have 20 years of points in many categories. I also struck out in all of the western states with only an elk, and antelope tag. One of these years, I will draw all at once. Texas owes me some tags.

Well I already drew deer and Elk out of state so won't be as disappointed when I apply in my home state this year and strike out again. Instead of points they should mail us a participation ribbon, at least I can hang them on my desk for decoration and brag about how large my collection of ribbons is.

I got the Hag segment a, but will still put in for a few with tpwd. Didn't see squat last year at lanwr and missed a nice one at government canyon. It's hard to find the right dates in the fall with my job.

They used to send out non-selection notices. I tried cooking them every way I knew how, but they always just tasted like dispair.

I'm looking forward to the draw hunts. I've got several preference points in a lot of categories. Hopefully this year I'll draw on a pretty nice hunt or two.

My son drew a nice mule deer hunt last year. Killed a pretty nice buck and a doe. Hopefully his luck will continue. My daughter hasn't drawn a hunt yet. Maybe this is her year. (I put her and my son in together on most hunts. The mule deer was for one permit only so I had to split up their applications)

i agree. my daughter drew chap 3 years ago and they put us in a small, maybe 250 acre pasture which didn't bother me. first hunt the cows poured out, ate all the corn and we saw nothing. same thing the next morning. went to one of the wardens to ask if they could move us due to the cows. he said sorry all blinds are full. The accepted as many standbys as they had extra blinds for, i think it was like 20+ standbys. I get accepting a few standbys but it would stand to reason that you leave some slack in there for those who have waited, some many years, to draw and may not be in the best place.
it was a mad house.
