I was fortunate enough to get an invite to hunt in Illinois this year. This is my first time ever hunting out of Texas. Anthony (Ground Checkin' Heavies,) Dusty ( Commercial,) and I made the 15 hour drive with hopes of connecting on a giant northern whitetail. We spent the first day scouting and placing stands. The first morning of hunting, I passed a nice 9-pointer because he did not look mature to me. The next four days, we saw little to no deer movement, and were getting discouraged. Finally yesterday morning I heard a deer grunting and running about 100 yards out. I grunted a few times and he bee lined right to me. I could tell he was mature so I took the shot. He is my first northern deer, and only my second buck ever. He is not the highest scoring, but I'm proud to have killed a mature Illinois buck. Thanks to Anthony for the invite and opportunity to hunt Illinois!
