Just got home last night from a great week in Illinois. I shot this buck on the third day of the hunt at 22 yards. I first heard him as he chased a doe into the CRP and began grunting and doing a loud buck roar. She brought him down into the draw I was sitting in and he hung up as she began feeding. She fed her way to within 5 yards of my tree and started looking up at me and I thought the gig was up. She began feeding up the finger I walked in on and he finally started closing the distance to her after standing there lip curling for about 30 minutes. He stopped behind a tree and I could just see the tip of his main beams and the crease behind his shoulder. I settled the pin and the shot sounded good as the NAP Thunderhead Razor slid through him. He ran to the edge of the CRP and stopped trying to figure out what had happened. He stood there for a minute or so and through the binoculars I could see blood on the exit wound. He slowly walked into the weeds and I saw him go down.....try and get back up and go down again. I walked out and came back 2 hours later to find this 165 3/8" Illinois brute. Talk about right place at the right time!
