What is the difference? And why?

What other types are there?

Thanks

In a California start you show up whenever you want and start on #1. When there are a lot of shooters that doesn't work. In a shotgun you and your group are assigned a target to start on - so if there are 40 targets, 40 groups can start at a given time.
