Default Hunting this season with a Sharps 45-90

After working up a decent black powder load (560 grain paper patched bullet) for my Shiloh Sharps, I decided I was going to only use this rifle this year. Having lost our lease we were on after 35 years, I am back to hunting on the 30 acres here at home. Hung a bow stand in September to be able to get a decent shot out to 75 yards or so. Dad has had a feeder set up below their house for about 10 years. He watches through binos from the house and feeds me info via text while Iím in the stand.

Iíve been hunting my butt off this week, morning and evening. Deer are moving like crazy. Bucks starting to really chase but the does arenít in yet IMO. I refuse to shoot my resident does as they are my live bait for bucks passing through here.

This will be a continuous live hunt throughout the season as I hunt with top of the line 1870ís technology.

My cartridge.

This morning. 12 yards but illegal as hell.

That is cool
I had a 45-70 Quigley and was afraid to take it hunting as I might scratch it. Worst decision I ever made on selling a gun, period!

For game I wouldn’t shoot past around 200. But I do have dope on this rifle out to 700 yards and am ringing steel consistently.

I busted a decent doe this morning. Bullet did fine, she ran 40 yards and piled up. I’ll be back hunting the rut next week.

Shot was awesome. Gun goes off, smoke fills the trees. I’m definitely hooked to black powder cartridge hunting.

Default Hunting this season with a Sharps 45-90

I got it done this morning. Black powder and a 545 grain lead bullet that I cast myself. Perfect shot at about 75 yards, deer ran about 100 yards before piling up. Gonna get a good portion of this buck made into jerky, it only seems right after shooting him with a Sharps.

That's pretty cool. Congrats.

I did a return to traditional this year, but only in the sense that i took the scope off the 30-30 and put a peep sight on. Wanted to do a season without a scope. Got it done a few days ago with a buck at about 30 yards. That was fun. Next is the revolver, but something like this would be awesome.
