    Feeder!

    I have been out of the shop taking care of a new born, but finally had a day to play!

    Started with 14 ga sheet metal to make the hopper.

    Then built the cage and added legs and skids.

    All that is left is the lid! And paint/powder coat.

    Hopper is 2.5x2.5x3, with an external funnel.

    Anyone know about what that will hold?

          slabnabbin--would you show your calculations? Not doubting you but I only get about 550 plus the funnel.

                Ya I was guessing 1000 lbs.

                I have built multiple 500 lb'ers and this one is quite a bit bigger.

                  2.5x2.5 = 6.25
                  6.25 x 3' (height) = 18.75 cf not including the funnel
                  18.75cf x 45 (cf of shelled corn=843.75

                  The funnel I roughly figured
                  2.5x2.5 x.66(guessing about 8" deep)=
                  4.125x45 = 186 lbs

                    Well done as usual Jeremy. You don't build anything light weight do ya brother?

                      slabnabbin--got it. When I ran my numbers I computed cubic feet, converted cubic feet to gallons and then figured 33 lbs per 5 gallons and came out about 30% lighter than your calc. I then re-looked the weight of shelled corn and found answers all over the place, but did find the definitive 45 lbs/cu ft that you used and got the same result you did for the bin.

                      thx,

                              What was your total cost for the material?
