I was on a lease in Mason TX, where the land owner (90+ years old....Mr. Willman) showed us a place his homestead land, where a village of Native American Indians would use a spot like this to crush their grain with a rock.

I'm not saying that I'm certain that this was the case in the picture, but that was my first impression when I saw how similar was the scene.

I'm thinking lightning, and later used as a fire pit. Something big, lightning, meteorite, etc hit is because the back of the rock is split like a major impact hit the front.
