Would you recommend Dukes, Bridger, or Victor traps? I would think our heaviest cat or coyote would be around 35 lbs.

You'll be amazed at the whoopin' those coyotes will put on your traps, most will hold up for 1-2 but some will bend and pop the jaws the first time a coyote hits the end of the chain. Get as heavy a built trap as you can afford, it will pay off later, trust me on this, heavy duty is the way to go.

I've got some traps I bought last year that I'd be willing to part with.

Single coil and wet sets could have been my problem. I double coiled them after that. I'm still learning on coyotes, trapping cats is a lot easier. I don't know if I'm leaving to much scent in the area, or what. I'm scent control freak went it comes to bowhunting, maybe I need to try that with my trapping. Where gloves and all, but just seem to have a lot more luck with the cats. The 4-5 coyotes that have stuck there foot in my traps pulled out of the single coiled 550, but like I said, the sets where usually just rained on or something. Bad timing.

Do you run stock pans/dogs on those Newhouse traps or do they have a tensioning screw on them?

No sir completely stock

On these traps you can still get them but I use a pan spring. It's a spring that goes under the pan. An when you really learn how to tune your trap with them you won't use that screw. Or at least I won't not even on the newer traps

Yeah, use foam, but rely on the tension screws on my modern traps. I have three Victors and a Triumph that do not have these adjustments, though.

Anybody have any leads on buyers, taxidermist etc. who might be interested in 4 male bobcats. There still whole in the freezer. I've skinned them out before and left the feet and head and shipped frozen.

You might look at eBay and see how the market is on there. You will need to Cites tag them before shipping across the state line though.

Out here where I'm at I can't use the tension screw or I won't becasue of the soil corrodes it so bad they won't go off. So my pans are not floppy loose but they free fall

Hi All,
For the last few years i've dabbled in trapping down at my ranch in Zapata county. I have only used snares on fence crawls and i've done pretty well catching bobcats and coyotes. This year I branched out and decided to try my hand at foot hold traps. I bought 6 Bridger #2's Full Modified and 6 MB 550's all offset. I put chain ends and super stakes on all. This weekend i took them down and made 8 dirthole sets. I ended up catching 5 raccoons on dirtholes and 5 coyotes on snares. My question is why i only caught raccoons in my dirthole sets? I used Milligans Predator chunk bait with sheeps wool down the hole with coyote urine and Hawbakers Wildcat#1 glade lure on the backing. Any advice on baits or lures would be greatly appreciated.
Scotty

To me this time of year is the worst hahah. When it starts getting hot usually I hang my traps up. Not this year. Still at it but not near as hard. I found a set of tracks today. Trailed them to the fence into the sheep pasture. Well he has a few surprises waiting on him.

Going good, trapping has slowed way down. I still have a few coyotes around that need catching though.

Well I didn't do great at the NAFA sale. I had 12 cats and 9 sold for an average of $67.22 before commission. I had 12 greys and 4 sold for a $21.50 average before commission.
