I've been bow hunting East Tx for 19 years and have never killed a hog with a bow... Until about an hour ago!
I got up this morning and had to be in Conroe for a job interview at 10. I walked in the kitchen to make some coffee and looked in the pasture like I do every morning. There was a lone boar hog in the corn. I slipped the .22mag out the living room window and took a nice rest on the couch and gave him one to the medulla!
I've been procrastinating on hanging my lock on in a primo fence corner spot behind the house and decided on the way home from Conroe, after having Tshelly getting me all jacked up about deer season, to get that stand up and try to make a hunt this evening.
I'd been Corning it for a couple of weeks and they're killing 50# a day. I finished hanging my stand about the time my wife and baby girl were getting home. We are supper and I changed into a pair of basketball shorts and a skeeter top shirt. I told my wife I was going to eradicate some hogs, I'd be back before black dark.
I climbed up in the stand and did a little extra trimming that I didn't get to earlier today and settled in for the evening. It really is a cool little spot.
I was there early and knew I was so I passed the time with some Tiger Woods Golf. You can't see anything other than the two little holes with corn in them so there wasn't much need in hard core no nonsense hunting. About 7:40pm I decided it was getting close to go time and put my phone away. I put the phone in my pocket, grabbed a swig of water and looked at the hole in time to see a black head coming in.
I kinda got jacked up! I've killed a pile of pigs just never one with my bow. I grabbed my bow and got stood up to see 3 more sows come in with her. They were all 4 facing directly towards me and one sort of boogered. I draw and missed the shot opportunity and she swung back facing me. I held for a second and let down. The same one spooked back almost straight away and I drew again. This time she stopped at a beautiful 1/4ing away at 24yds and I slipped one right in amongst the business!
Pretty dang good shot if it's alright to do a little bragging! I was pretty sure I heard her crash, but came back to the house anyways. I tucked baby girl in, grabbed a pistol just in case, and went back to her.
She might have gone 50 yards and was leaking like a faucet! I'm not a fan of mechanicals, but the Reaper put a hurting on her!
Not much of a trophy, but all dead pigs are good pigs, especially when they're tearing up the pasture and it's your first with a bow.
