Best 12 gauge semitauto for under $1000

Friends wife is looking to get him a shotgun for Christmas and was looking for advice. Was thinking about the 1187, but not really as familiar with current gun models as I used to be. Mostly upland hunting, maybe a duck or goose or 2 thrown in. Thoughts?

    Stoeger m3500

Been shooting a stoeger for 12 years and I can keep up with the high end brands with minimal maintenance. Benelli owns stoeger and uses the same parts on allot of it

      for under 1000

Franchi Affinity - they have 12 and 20 gauge
      Winchester Super X 3 - they may be on the X 4 now - only 12 gauge

11-87 is a good, reliable gun but it’s on the heavy side.

Franchi if you want pretty at that price point.
If not grab a beretta or a benelli in black or camo

                        Stoeger M3500
I’ve had one the past couple of years and have loved it for everything from dove to ducks to turkey. Like someone else mentioned, it’s made with a lot of the same parts as Benelli , just at a lower cost.

If the a300 can be bought under $1k that would be my vote

I've got a M3500 and have been happy. As mentioned, it's made like a Benelli. It's not a benelli, but similar inertia system and shoots 2-3/4 all the way to 3-1/2.
