    Axis....deer feeder?

I've gotten permission to a place with axis on it. Being new to axis, what is different than whitetail? I've heard they are extra cagey. Do they like to eat protein, or just corn? I was going to put up a feeder, maybe free choice protein? Or corn thrower? Any tips on hunting them different than whitetail with a bow?

    They taste awful.
    And boring to hunt.

I'll come show you how to hunt them if you want.
    And dispose of the meat.

      Corn thrower.

They like alfalfa in some places.

They will push the white tails off the feeder. Axis are more aggressive.

      Rut during the summer.
Bucks can sound like an elk.
      Breed year around.
You might see a buck in velvet and hard horn at same time.

      Very tasty animals.

They will eat protein as fast as you can put it out, corn also.If feeding axis protein I would go with a timed unit.Hunting is no different than whitetail, its been my experience that the larger bucks will be at the tail end of a herd or group when coming in to a feeder.

I've been told throwing corn on the ground away from feeders works a lot better on mature axis. I see a lot more Axis in or near thick cover than I do around feeders.

I build a few alfalfa feeders. This picture isn't the best, but it should give you an idea. They will work great for Axis.
