    I do a "dry" burn to start with. Burner full blast, rotate discada till the whole thing gets a blueish color, turn off burner, add manteca and spread around the whole cooking surface. Wait a few minutes, wipe out excess manteca, and repeat for 2-3 times. This might work as I've only made a couple

        buy a pound cheapest bacon you can find
        turn the gas all the way up on the discada
        throw bacon on discada
        cook until very done
        throw bacon in trash
        let discada cool
        wipe grease form bacon all over discada
        turn the heat back on and let it snap, crackle, and pop
        wipe off excess grease
        she's ready for cooking

        This is how I did mine and it still cooks great after 4 years!

            It simply needs to get hot and cool several times...using any number of oils/grease. I use vegetable oil, a pear burner, and a rag (and leather gloves) to spread it around. It takes very little oil to coat the whole thing. If it has horseshoe handles, I’d do them too.

            These need to be treated like any cast iron cookware. Stay away from the more acidic foods the first few times, as it lets the oil really set into the steel. To clean it, wipe it down with a wet rag. Avoid washing it down with soap as it will remove the oils. Put a table spoon of fresh oil on a rag/paper towel and wipe it down and turn the heat on a for few minutes. It’s done and ready for storage...till next time.

            Enjoy.

              What do they run? I'm nowhere close to DFW.
